Grapefruit Season Starts With Tie

The Marlins took on the Washington Nationals today in the first game of the 2008 Grapefruit League season.   The game ended in a 3-3 tie.   Scott Olsen got the start for the Marlins while Matt Chico countered for the Nationals.   Many lineup regulars saw action for the Marlins.  Olsen lasted 2 innings surrendering two hits while striking out one and walking none.   The Marlins fell behind 2-1 in the 6th inning before Mike Jacobs delivered a go-ahead two run inning in the bottom half of the inning.   The fish would hold the 3-2 lead until the 9th when Marcus Gwyn ran into some trouble and surrendered the tying run.    The Marlins failed to put across a run in the bottom half of the 9th to clinch the tie.

Nationals vs Marlins Preview

The Marlins will take on the Nationals in the first game of the 2008 Grapefruit League season this evening.   Scott Olsen will be getting the ball to start the game and is expected to pitch up to three innings.   Many of the lineup regulars are also expected to get the start and get two at bats each before being replaced.   Here are the details for today’s game:

Fish Defeat Canes 7-2

The Marlins got Spring Training off to a great start on Tuesday with a win over the University of Miami by the score of 7-2.    The first run of the game came in the first and was knocked in by Josh Willingham with an RBI single.   Another run was added by a Mike Jacobs sac fly also in the first inning.   Cody Ross would score on a wild pitch in the 2nd frame.   Later runs from the Marlins were added in the 5th and 6th innings.   Starter Bobby Keppel got the win after 1 scoreless inning to start the game.   After the first inning, there was a 33 minute rain delay during which Keppel was replaced.    The other Marlin pitchers who appeared in this game were De La Cruz, Seddon, Delgado, Nelson, Nestor, Tankersley and Gardner.
