Fish Edged By Brewers

April 27, 2008 by Larry Walansky · Comments Off

The Marlins lost Saturday’s game 4-3 to the Milwaukee Brewers dropping their season record to 14-10.    The Marlins have split the six games so far on the road trip with one game remaining on Sunday in Milwaukee.   Mark Hendrickson made the start for the Marlins coming off 4 straight winning decisions, and pitched well again but not well enough to grab the victory.

Hendrickson lasted six innings, surrendering 3 runs (2 earned).   Not only did he pitch well on Saturday but he swung the bat well as well picking up his first career triple and lifting his season average to .286.   Justin Miller replaced Hendrickson and pitched one scoreless innings.   Following Miller was Renyel Pinto who has had the best season out of the pen of any Marlins reliever.  The first batter he faced in the bottom of the 8th was Prince Fielder who promptly hit what turned out to be the game winning home run.    Pinto got into a jam after the Fielder homer but escaped with no further damage.    The Marlins could not fight back in the 9th vs Eric Gagne however as he struck out the side and closed the game for the Brewers.

Hanley Ramirez hit a home run to start the game, his 8th of the season and his 18th lead off homer of his career.    Dan Uggla and Josh Willingham added two hits of their own in the game with Uggla picking up a run batter in along the way.

The Marlins will go for the series win, and a winning road trip on Sunday when they send Ricky Nolasco to the mound to take on Manny Parra.
