On Tuesday, the Marlins dropped game 2 of their series against the Seattle Mariners 5-4. Down by 4 runs early, the fish fought back but fell a run short. With the loss, the team remained 3 games behind the Philadelphia Phillies in the N.L. East. Scott Olsen made the start and struggled before exiting in the 5th inning.
Olsen gave up 11 hits in 4.1 innings of work. The lefty allowed 5 runs, four of them earned and was taged with the loss dropping his record to 4-4. Logan Kensing was the first reliever to enter the game for the fish and tossed 1.2 scoreless innings. Doug Waecther was the next and last pitcher for the Marlins throwing 2 scoreless innings while striking out 1.
Dan Uggla got the Marlins on the scoreboard first with his 20th home run of the season in the 2nd inning. Jeremy Hermida, Jorge Cantu, and Matt Treanor each added a run batted in of their own. The Marlins offense struggled against Mariners’ starter Felix Hernandez for the majority of the game and fell short of completing the comeback due to a Mariners bullpen that struck out 4 of the 5 hitters faced.
On Wednesday the series will be completed as Ryan Tucker pitches for the Marlins. The Mariners will counter with R.A. Dickey.
