Padres Marlins Baseball
The Marlins won their 5th straight game on Friday in Washington D.C. over the Nationals and in doing so set a franchise record for wins through the first 35 games. The Marlins had never won more than 20 of their first 35 games previously. This win also improved the Marlins record to 7 games over .500. Ricky Nolasco made the start for the fish and turned in his best start thus far giving up 1 earned run in 6 innings of work to earn the win

Nolasco improved his record to 2-3 on the year after starting out the campaign in the bull pen. The Nationals were held hitless through 3.2 innings and wound up with 4 hits during Nolasco’s six innings on the mound. Nolasco showed good control in the game striking out 6 while walking 2 and lowered his E.R.A to 5.35 for the season. Doug Waechter who had been one of the best arms out of the bull pen struggled on Friday lasting two thirds of an inning in which he allowed two earned runs. Justin Miller finished the inning when Waechter got into trouble with a quick out against the only batter he faced. Renyel Pinto and Kevin Gregg each pitched a scoreless inning for the final two frames of the game.

Luis Gonzalez continued his hot hitting with three runs batted in during this game. Jorge Cantu had a multi hit game and 2 R.B.I’s. Everyone in the lineup outside of the pitcher’s spot got at least one hit in this game for the red hot Marlins offense which has accumulated 20 runs in the past 3 games. Hanley Ramirez is now hitting .409 with an astonishing .533 OBP since moving into the third spot in the lineup.

On Saturday the series continues as the Marlins send Andrew Miller to the mound to take on Mike O’Connor for the Nationals.
