Burke Badenhop picked up his first career big league win on Wednesday as the Marlins beat the Milwaukee Brewers 6-2. The win was the Marlins 3rd in a row and brought their win total for the season to 19 and brought them five games over .500 for the first time since April 27th. This was also the Marlins 4th win over the Brewers in 5 tries. With the win, the Marlins maintain their first place position in the National League East for at least one more day.

Badenhop flashed signs of greatness in this game as he struck out 7 in 5.2 innings of work. “The Hopper” carried a no hitter through 3.2 innings. After a quality start vs the Los Angeles Dodgers last time out, this was Badenhop’s second consecutive outing where he gave Marlins fans a reason to think he could stick around in the rotation for awhile. Badenhop allowed 2 earned runs and 1 walk in the game and lowered his E.R.A for the season to 6.31. Doug Waechter threw 1.1 scoreless innings lowering his E.R.A. to 0.71. Renyel Pinto added two scoreless innings of his own to reduce his E.R.A to 0.76. The pitching was aided by great defense including two spectacular grabs by Alfredo Amezaga in center field.

Offense came courtesy in part to back-to-back home runs hit by Jorge Cantu and Dan Uggla in the 6th inning. The homers were Cantu’s 4th and Uggla’s 8th of the season. This was also Uggla’s 5th home run of the home stand. Hanley Ramirez went 2-2 and walked twice as he got on base every time up today. Mike Jacobs doubled home two runs early but had to leave the game with a quadriceps injury while legging out the double. Wes Helms filled in for Jake for the remainder of the game and went 0-2.

On Thursday, the Marlins will try for the sweep against the Brewers as they send Mark Hendrickson to the mound to take on Carlos Villanueva.
