miller522.jpg The Marlins completed a sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday as they improved their record to 27-19. The final in this one was a 4-0 shutout in a game started by Andrew MIller. The Diamondbacks entered the series holding the best record in Major League Baseball and sent their top 3 pitchers up against the Marlins but came away with no victories.

Miller turned in his best game as a Marlin thus far with 7 shutout innings in which he struck out an impressive nine Diamondbacks. Miller only allowed 1 walk and showed exceptional control while lowering his E.R.A to 5.33. The lefty continued a fantastic May as he is now sporting a 1.44 earned run average for the month. Logan Kensing and Justin Miller each added a scoreless inning of their own to preserve the shutout.

Alfredo Amezaga had a 3 hit game including a triple to pace the Marlins’ lineup in this game. Amezaga returned to the 8th spot in the lineup for the game as Hanley Ramirez was switched back to lead off to try and get him out of his recent slump. Ramirez had a triple in the game in the first, his only hit in the game. Mike Jacobs had a 2 hit game. Wes Helms had a 2 run pinch hit double to cushion the Marlins lead. Dan Uggla’s 11 game hitting streak came to an end.

After the game, Jacque Jones was added to the roster as Robert Andino was optioned to AAA to make room for him. On Friday, the fish open a series with the San Francisco Giants. Scott Olsen will take on Barry Zito in game one.
