Fish Take Seattle Opener

miller617.jpgThe Marlins played their first ever game in Seattle on Monday and opened the series against the Seattle Mariners with a 6-1 win. The win was the team’s 2nd in a row and kept them 3 games behind the Philadelphia Phillies in the National League East. The Marlins and Mariners had only played one series in history prior to this with that series taking place in Florida back in 2005.

Andrew Miller made the start and had another tremendous effort throwing 7 innings while allowing only one earned run. This was the rookie’s 2nd consecutive 7 inning start in which only one run scored following up on his last time on the mound against the Phillies. Since April 29th, Miller has lowered his E.R.A from 9.12 to 4.87. Miller was credited with the win and moved to 5-5 on the season. Renyel Pinto was the first pitcher out of the bullpen pitching two thirds of shutout relief. Justin Miller finished that inning off giving him a perfect one third of an inning. Kevin Gregg pitched the 9th in a non-save situation and finished the win for the fish.

In a rare occurrence, the Marlins put up 6 runs without the benefit of a home run.    The team which often relies on longballs for wins was able to manufacture runs and put together a win on Tuesday in Sunday.   Hanley Ramirez, Jeremy Hermida and Dan Uggla all had two hit games.   8 of the 9 batters in the starting lineup had at least one hit with Cody Ross being the lone exception.

Scott Olsen will face Felix Hernandez and the Mariners on Tuesday as the series continues.
