Fish Top Mets for 3rd Straight

marlins526.jpg Fresh off a doubleheader sweep, the Marlins arrived in New York on Monday and kicked off the road trip with a series opening win against the New York Mets by the score of 7-3. With the win, the Marlins moved to 10 games over .500 for the first time since September 2005. The fish also maintained a 2 game lead in the National League East with their 3rd straight win.

Ricky Nolasco made the start for the Marlins and lasted 5 innings to pick up his 4th win of the season. Nolasco allowed 9 hits, 3 earned runs, walked 2 and struck out 1. Doug Waechter pitched two scoreless innings of relief in which he picked up 1 strikeout. Renyel Pinto added a scoreless inning in the 8th. Joe Nelson who was called up from AAA earlier in the day pitched a perfect 9th to finish the game for the Marlins.

Luis Gonzalez had the big hit of the game for the Marlins when he smacked a 3 run double into center field during the 3rd inning. Matt Treanor and Jeremy Hermida each had 2 hit games in the contest. Dan Uggla continued his hot May by picking up his 38th run batted in of the season.

The series continues on Tuesday as Andrew Miller pitches for the Marlins and takes on Johan Santana for the Mets.
