Lineup Change Snaps Losing Streak

After being swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday, the Marlins rebounded with a 6-4 win over the San Diego Padres on Friday. The fish who have slipped out of first place in the National League East turned to Mark Hendrickson (5-1) to be the stopper en route to their 16th win of the young season.

Hendrickson won his 5th decision of the year, a great start to May after finishing April a perfect 4-0. This was Hendrickson’s 5th straight decision that resulted in a win. The tall lefty gave up 3 earned runs in 7 innings pitched and now has an E.R.A of 3.71 for the season. Taylor Tankersley pitched a perfect 8th inning as he continues to try and turn his season around after a rough April. Kevin Gregg who has been struggling as of late and lost 2 decisions in the Dodgers series — gave up an earned run in the 9th but came away with his 5th save of the season.

Dan Uggla was shifted to the 6th spot in the lineup and adjusted quite well with 2 home runs and 4 runs batted in. Luis Gonzalez added a home run of his own as he made a start in place of Josh Willingham who was placed on the disabled list earlier in the day. Gonzalez is expected to share time with Brett Carroll who is filling Willingham’s roster spot. Hanley Ramirez went 1-3 in his debut at the #3 spot in the lineup while Alfredo Amezaga went 1-4 as the new leadoff man of the Marlins.

The Marlins will look to take the series on Saturday when they send Ricky Nolasco to the mound to take on Jake Peavy for the Padres.
