Marlins Can’t Dodge Sweep

May 2, 2008 by Larry Walansky

The Los Angeles Dodgers completed a sweep of the Marlins on Thursday with a 5-3 win.   Much like Game 1 of the series, the score was tied going to the 9th with Kevin Gregg on the mound.   Once again Gregg and the fish came away with the loss in a hard fought game.

Burke Badenhop made the start for the Marlins and turned in his best start as a big leaguer thus far lasting 6 innings surrendering 3 earned runs while striking out six including a span of 4 strikeouts in a row early on.  Taylor Tankersley rebounded from a tough outing on Wednesday with a scoreless inning.  Renyel Pinto added a scoreless inning of his own before Gregg allowed two runs in a tough final frame.

On the offensive side of things, Cody Ross snapped out of a season long slump with his first homer of the season.  Ross’ homer tied the game at 3 in the 5th right after the Dodgers had scored two in the top half of the inning.  Matt Treanor had a 2 hit game raising his season average to .244.

On Friday, the Marlins will open a series with the San Diego Padres when they send Mark Hendrickson to the mound to take on Justin Germano.
