Marlins Drop 3rd Straight
July 6, 2008 by Larry Walansky
The Marlins’ struggles in Colorado continued on Saturday as the Rockies came away 12-6 winners. Rookie Ryan Tucker made the start and allowed 8 earned runs in only four innings of work in possibly his last start in the majors. The Marlins did have some good news on this day as the Phillies also lost keeping the fish 3.5 games back of first place despite a three game losing streak.
Ryan Tucker’s struggles continued in this game as his record dropped to 2-3 and his E.R.A soared to 8.38. With the imminent return of Josh Johnson and the call up of top prospect Chris Volstad, it would appear Tucker’s days in the rotation are numbered. If Tucker is removed from the rotation, speculation is he would be demoted back to AA Carolina rather than used out of the bullpen in the majors. Matt Lindstrom appeared in this game in his return from AAA and pitched a scoreless inning of relief notching two strikeouts.
Cody Ross’s hot streak was extended in this game as he had his 3rd straight three hit game while grabbing 4 more runs batted in and his 14th home run of the season. Ross now has 10 runs batted in during this series and 9 in the last two games.
The four game series comes to a close on Sunday as Aaron Cook pitches for the Rockies. The Marlins will counter with Mark Hendrickson.
