The fish completed a sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday with a 7-2 win. This game which was the Marlins’ 4th win in a row moved at a snail’s pace due to high pitch counts from both starters. Mark Hendrickson made the start for the Marlins but only lasted 4.1 innings allowing Logan Kensing to pick up the win. The Marlins are now 20-14 and remain in first place in the National League East.
Mark Hendrickson continued his streak of decisions ending in wins as he came away with a No Decision in this game. Since losing Opening Day, Hendrickson has won all 5 decisions he’s been involved in. The tall lefty struggled with control in this game and threw 109 pitches in only 4.1 innings. He battled and held the Brewers to 1 earned run in his time on the mound. Logan Kensing came out of the bullpen to finish the 5th inning and added on two more innings as well in which he allowed no hits and no walks while striking out 4. Kensing lowered his season E.R.A to 2.70 and picked up his first win of the year as well. Matt Lindstrom pitched 1 inning and allowed one earned run. Justin Miller pitched the 9th and had a perfect frame with one strikeout.
Jorge Cantu and Matt Treanor homered for the Marlins. The homers were Cantu’s 5th and Treanor’s 1st of the season. After a 4-4 day on Tuesday, Luis Gonzalez continued his hot hitting with a 3-3 day on Thursday raising his average to .288. Hanley Ramirez, Jorge Cantu and Matt Treanor all had multi hit days as well.
On Friday, the Marlins open the road trip in Washington as they send Ricky Nolasco to the mound. Tim Redding will counter for the Nationals.
