uggla621.jpgThe Marlins won Saturday’s game against the Oakland Athletics 6-4 after escaping a bases loaded jam in the 9th.   Dan Uggla put the team ahead by 3 in the top of the inning, and Jorge Cantu saved the day with a diving stop with the bases loaded and a 2 run lead in the bottom half of the inning to clinch the win.   The fish are now one game behind the Phillies in the N.L. East.

Ricky Nolasco had another quality start for the fish allowing three earned runs in 7 innings on the mound.   Nolasco struck out three and walked one.   This outing followed up on his 12 strikeout performance last time on the mound.    Renyel Pinto threw a scoreless inning and struck out two while being credited with a win.   Kevin Gregg struggled in the 9th inning walking 2 and giving up 2 hits and one earned run before completing his 13th save of the season.

A night after the fish hit 4 home runs, there was only 1 longball in this game.   Cody Ross hit his 12th home run of the season, a solo shot in the 8th inning to tie the game.   Dan Uggla had 3 runs batted in, all coming in the 9th on his bases clearing double.   Ross, Wes Helms, and Matt Treanor all had two hit games.

On Sunday, the series concludes as Andrew Miller pitches for the fish and Justin Duchscherer pitches for the Athletics.
