Marlins Lose in 12th

The Marlins dropped a 2nd game in a row and a series to the New York Mets on Wednesday by the score of 7-6. It was a back and forth battle that saw the Marlins score one in the top of the 12th only to surrender 2 in the bottom half of the inning for the loss. Scott Olsen made the start for the Marlins, and Justin Miller took the loss in the 12th with a rough outing. The loss decreased the Marlins lead in the National League East to 1.5 games.
Scott Olsen pitched 5 innings and allowed 4 earned runs and 6 hits. Olsen’s velocity was once again hovering in the low-mid 80’s for most of the game. 6 relievers got into this game and the first was Doug Waechter who pitched one scoreless inning. Renyel Pinto was next and added 1.1 scoreless innings of his own. Matt Lindstrom completed the inning with .2 perfect innings pitched including a strikeout. In the 9th, Kevin Gregg entered looking for the save but Endy Chavez hit a home run to give Gregg his 2nd blown save of the season and take the game into extra innings. Logan Kensing pitched the 10th and 11th giving the Marlins two scoreless innings of relief. In the 12th after the Marlins took the lead, Justin Miller entered the game aiming for a save but allowed 2 earned runs after getting only one out tagging him with a blown save and a loss.
The Marlins hit 4 home runs in this game including two by Cody Ross who now has 9 home runs despite hitting a mere .202 for the season. Mike Rabelo added his 2nd home run of the season. Alfredo Amezaga hit his 1st home run of the season in a big way putting the Marlins ahead by a run in the 12th inning before they fell in the bottom half of the inning. Hanley Ramirez had another tough day at the plate going 0-4 to lower his average further to .291 for the season. Jacque Jones, Jorge Cantu also had hitless days in this game.
The Marlins are off on Thursday and will start a series in Philadelphia on Friday. Mark Hendrickson will pitch for the fish as the Phillies counter with Brett Myers.
