baker710.jpg Day two of the second half went a lot better than the previous day for the Marlins as they came away winners by the score of 9-5 over the first place Phillies.   The win saw three home runs by the fish including Dan Uggla’s first blast in nearly a month.  Also featured was solid relief work from the Marlins’ bullpen holding down the Phillies’ offense to secure a much needed victory.

Scott Olsen started the game and earned his sixth win of the year by throwing for five innings while allowing three earned runs.   The pen only allowed one earned run in it’s four innings of relief, with the only run being charged to Doug Waechter.   Olsen added a hit in this game as well before being lifted for a pinch hitter in the bottom of the 5th when the Marlins loaded the bases.

John Baker (2), Jeremy Hermida (11) and Dan Uggla (24) all homered in this game.   Uggla had last homered on June 20th in Oakland while suffering through a power drought.   Baker continues to impress as his four runs batted in gave him a total of six in only five major league games.   Jorge Cantu had a big day at the playe going four for five.   Cody Ross followed suit added three hits of his own a day after his 17 game hitting streak came to an end.

The series will come to a close on Sunday as the fish try to move within a half of game of the Phillies.   Josh Johnson will pitch for the Marlins.   Philadelphia will counter with Cole Hamels.
