The winning streak continued for the Marlins on Sunday in a game where it appeared to be nearing it’s end. The Marlins beat the Washington Nationals 5-4 to improve the streak to 7 in a row.  With the win, the Marlins now have the best record in Major League Baseball at 23-14. The Marlins fell behind early and didn’t take over the lead until the 8th inning with a rally of home runs. Scott Olsen struggled a little but settled in as his day came to a close and kept the team in the game. Dan Uggla hit a pair of homers as he continued his hot streak.

Olsen was not at his best but he was good enough on Sunday. He allowed 4 earned runs in 6 innings of work. Olsen threw only 59 pitches but was lifted in favor of pinch hitter Brett Carroll in the 7th inning as the Marlins tried to mount a come back. Thanks to the come from behind victory, Olsen was taken off the hook and came away with a no decision. He remains 4-1 on the season with a stellar 2.63 E.R.A. The bull pen was once again a major factor as they shut the Nationals down. Logan Kensing, Renyel Pinto, and Kevin Gregg each threw a scoreless inning in the game after Olsen exited. Kensing got the win and is now 2-0 while Gregg secured his 7th save of the season.

Besides the aforementioned pair of home runs from Dan Uggla, Jeremy Hermida added one of his own. Much like both of Uggla’s shots — Hermida’s 2 run blast was a huge homer as it came in the 8th with the fish trailing by two. After Hermida tied the game, Uggla untied it with his second solo shot of the game. Uggla now has 11 homers on the season and 27 runs batted in. Hermida increased his home run total to 3 while improving his average to .305.

The Marlins will take on the Cincinnati Reds on Monday as Burke Badenhop faces off against Aaron Harang. This is the start of a 4 game series.
