SAN DIEGO - Ricky Nolasco pitched another gem and got a timely two-run home run from Jorge Cantu to lead the visiting Florida Marlins past the San Diego Padres 3-1 on Monday night in front of 23,840 fans at Petco Park.
The win for the Marlins was their second in a row after dropping the first three games of this 11-game roadtrip.
Greg Maddux (3-7) has not won a game in his past 11 starts going 0-4 with seven no decisions.
Nolasco (10-4) won his fifth straight decision holding San Diego to one run and five hits in eight innings. He struck out seven and walked none. Kevin Gregg pitched a perfect ninth to record his 16th save in 22 chances.
The game featured some fireworks just a few days after July 4th, as Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez was ejected in the seventh inning for aruging with crew chief Joe West after West and the umpires took a run off the scoreboard for the Marlins.
All-Star Hanley Ramirez extended his hitting streak to a career high 14 games with a double in the sixth inning.
INJURY NOTES
Catcher Matt Treanor left the game in the ninth inning after aggravating a lower abdominal strain. Following the game the Marlins called up catcher John Baker from AAA and a corresponding move is expected to be announced on Tuesday afternoon.
