Olsen Shines In Win

April 26, 2008 by Larry Walansky

Scott Olsen continued his terrific season on Friday by tossing 7.1 shutout innings on way to a 3-0 Marlins win in 10 innings.   Olsen lowered his team leading E.R.A to 2.06 in this game where he allowed 4 hits, 5 walks and struck out none.    The win was the Marlins’ 14th of the season giving them a 14-9 record for the season as they continue to pace the National League East.

The bats were quiet for the Marlins as they matched the Brewers run total of 0 through 9 innings.  Going into the 10th inning, it was 0-0 and both teams had turned to their closers already.  Eric Gagne and Kevin Gregg both worked scoreless 9th innings.  In the top of the 10th, former Marlin Guillermo Mota took the mound for the Brewers and surrendered 3 runs.   Gregg stayed in to pitch the bottom half of the inning and kept the shutout intact as he was credited with the win for the game.

Mike Rabelo had his best day as a Marlin thus far with a 3-3 game including a run batted in during the 10th inning rally.  Jeremy Hermida had a fine day as well going 3-5 at the plate lifting his season average to .274.  Justin Miller and Renyel Pinto each pitched a 1/3 of an inning finishing off the 8th inning that Olsen started.

The series continues on Saturday as Mark Hendrickson makes the start for the fish countering Carlos Villanueva for the Milwaukee Brewers.
