miller73.jpgThe Marlins opened a series with the Colorado Rockies on Thursday with a 6-5 loss in 11 innings.   After a strong effort from starter, Andrew Miller the fish saw two leads lost when the bullpen faltered.   With the loss, the fish dropped to 2.5 games behind the first place Philadelphia Phillies in the National League East.   The Marlins’ record for this season now sits at 44-41.

Miller lasted 6.2 innings and allowed three earned runs.   The rookie struck out five and walked three before being removed with 2 outs in the 7th inning.   Doug Waechter finished off the 7th and retired the only batter he faced on a strikeout.   Logan Kensing allowed one earned run in 1 inning of work and was charged with his 2nd blown save of the season.    Renyel Pinto walked one batter in one third of an inning of work as his control issues continued.   The only batter retired by Pinto was on a fielders choice play at 2nd base.    Justin Miller worked a scoreless inning in which he walked two and struck out two as well.    Miller got into a jam before Joe Nelson was brought in to get him and the fish out of it by tossing two thirds of an inning of scoreless relief.    The final pitcher of the night was Kevin Gregg who had a save opportunity entering the bottom of the 11th but quickly loaded the bases with nobody out.    Gregg would pick up an out when Alfredo Amezaga threw a runner out at home but would then give up the game winning two run hit dropping his record tp 6-3 on the season while being charged with his 5th blown save.

Jorge Cantu hit the only home run of the night for the Marlins, his 15th of the year.   There were 3 multi hit games for the fish.  Cantu had one while Hanley Ramirez and Cody Ross had the others.    Runs batted in were credited to Jorge Cantu, Cody Ross, Paul Hoover, and Andrew Miller.
