hendrickson52.jpgThe series against the Cincinnati Reds came to a close on Monday with a 9-4 Marlins loss. Mark Hendrickson had another rough outing and put a strain on the bullpen heading into a crucial series against the first place Philadelphia Phillies. With the loss, the fish fell 4 games back of the idle Phillies.

Hendrickson lasted only 2.1 innings and was rocked by the Reds. The lefty allowed 3 home runs in his short time including Ken Griffey Jr’s 600th career home run. A total of 85 pitches were thrown in the start forcing the bullpen to enter in the 3rd inning. First out of the pen was recently converted reliever Burke Badenhop who tossed 2.2 scoreless innings with 4 strikeouts. Matt Lindstrom was next and threw a perfect inning in which he struck out two. Logan Kensing added two scoreless innings of his own and was one walk shy of a perfect outing. Renyel Pinto pitched the 9th with the fish trailing by two and put the game out of reach allowing 3 earned runs in one inning of work.

The bats were quiet in this game for the most part.  Mike Jacobs hit his 14th home run of the season.   Jeremy Hermida added 2 runs batted in to his season total and Jorge Cantu was credited with the 4th R.B.I for the Marlins.

A series against the Phillies begins on Tuesday. Ricky Nolasco will take the mound for the fish and the Phillies will counter with Brett Myers.
