miller522.jpgThe Marlins dropped a 2nd game in a row on Friday, and it was their 5th loss in the last 6 games. The final of this one was 11-3 with the Cincinnati Reds coming out on top. Rookie Andrew Miller made the start and struggled against the potent Reds lineup. With the loss, the fish fell 3.5 back of the first place Phillies in the N.L. East.

Miller lasted only 3.1 innings and allowed four earned runs. The rookie did show some great moments in the game hitting 96 mph on the radar gun more than once while striking out six. With the loss, Miller’s record fell to 4-5 and his E.R.A rose to 5.65 for the season. Five relievers worked in this game as the strain on the fish bullpen continued. Doug Waechter was the first out of the pen and had a rare bad outing as he allowed 4 earned runs in 1.2 innings of work. Justin Miller was next and worked one scoreless inning. Matt Lindstrom followed with 3 earned runs in his two thirds of an inning of work. Joe Nelson finished the inning for Lindstrom and added another to total 1.1 innings of scoreless relief. Renyel Pinto worked the 9th allowing 1 hit, and no runs while striking out 2.

On a mostly quiet night for the Marlins bats, Jorge Cantu turned in one of his best games of the season cracking two home runs to give him 10 for the season. Cantu added a double to give him a 3 hit game. Cody Ross had the only other multi hit game for the fish as he compiled two hits. The Marlins’ pitchers did some damage at the plate in this game as Andrew Miller picked up his 2nd R.B.I of the year. Doug Waechter collected his first big league hit in the game as well.

On Saturday, the series against the Reds continues as Scott Olsen takes on Bronson Arroyo.
