So Samson and the team accept the Orange Bowl site
November 1, 2007 by Roman Garcia
Wow, wee what should have been a foregone conclusion was finally made public this morning, when Marlins’ team president David Samson was quoted by the Fort Lauderdale Sun Sentinel as saying that the team had accepted the Orange Bowl site.
Well Mr. smarty-pants Samson, it isn’t like the team had much of a choice.
Downtown has been out of the picture for a while and the Marlins didn’t want to go to either Pompano or Hialeah (which in my opinion is still the best site).
So with all that being said, if the team wants to stay in South Florida, it would have to be at the Orange Bowl.
But now the rumor mill is working on overdrive, stating that the team is looking a cutting its contribution to the project because it isn’t in downtown.
Well you know what in my opinion and as much as I love this franchise, if the Marlins pull even one penny out of their original stated compensation package then the City and County should back out of the deal and send the Marlins packing.
The Marlins made a pledge of $207 million to this project and they need to keep their word. The city and county government are coming up with more than half, a lot more than half.
So Mr. Samson, even if the team didn’t accept the OB site for the next venue of a Marlins ballpark, since you alienated Hialeah and didn’t even talk to Pompano, I don’t see you with many other options.
On a final note, a plea to the organization is the PLEASE NEGOTIATE IN GOOD FAITH AND LETS GET THIS DEAL DONE!!!!
Here is to going to a Marlins game at the new OB site in 2011.
