Spring Recap - 3/23

March 23, 2008 by Larry Walansky

The Marlins improved their Spring record to 17-8 with a win today over the Washington Nationals. Starting rotation hopeful, Rick VandenHurk started the game and picked up the win. The Netherlands native lasted 4 innings and gave up 1 earned run. His control wasn’t an issue today as he served up no walks. Matt Lindtrom, Justin Miller, Lee Gardner, Taylor Tankersley and Logan Kensing all added scoreless innings of their own. Kensing picked up the save in the game. Of note in this game, was Dallas McPherson getting a start — a rare one this Spring. The third base competition is all but officially over however as Jorge Cantu is set to start there on Opening Day.

On Monday, the Marlins play the Houston Astros.
