Rookie Balester topples Marlins in debut

MIAMI - Collin Balester made his big league debut a successful one on Tuesday night using the Florida Marlins as his victim in Washingtion 9-6 win over Florida in front of 12,166 fans at Dolphin Stadium.

Making his first big league start, Balester pitched five innings allowing just one hit, one earned run, while walking three and striking out three to earn the victory.

Willingham’s homer wins it for Florida in 10 innings

MIAMI - Welcome back Josh Willingham is what most of the Marlins will be saying after Monday night’s game. Willingham went 2-for-3 with two home runs and three RBI including the game-winner in the bottom of the 10th inning to give the host Florida Marlins a 6-5 win over Washington and move the Marlins to within half a game of the first-place idle Phillies.

The Gauntlet is Upon Us

After being swept by the Cincinnati Reds and losing two of three to the Kansas City Royals, the Marlins still hold the lead for the National League East. However the gap between Florida and the three other division contenders appears to be paper thin. With only two games separating the four teams, the Marlins need to take advantage of every opportunity they get.

MLB Best Marlins Win 7th Straight

The winning streak continued for the Marlins on Sunday in a game where it appeared to be nearing it’s end. The Marlins beat the Washington Nationals 5-4 to improve the streak to 7 in a row.  With the win, the Marlins now have the best record in Major League Baseball at 23-14. The Marlins fell behind early and didn’t take over the lead until the 8th inning with a rally of home runs. Scott Olsen struggled a little but settled in as his day came to a close and kept the team in the game. Dan Uggla hit a pair of homers as he continued his hot streak.

Streak Hits Six in Romp

On Saturday in Washington D.C., the Marlins grabbed their 6th win in a row with a 11-0 win over the Nationals. The win moved the Marlins to 8 games over the .500 mark for the first time since September 2005. It also is the Marlins’ best record through 36 games in franchise history as they continued to shatter franchise records. Lost in all the offense, and streaks was a phenomenal pitching performance by Andrew Miller who turned in his best start as a Marlin so far.
