Wild Game Ends With Loss

olsen74.jpgThe Marlins and Colorado Rockies combined for a total of 35 runs and 43 hits in Friday’s game.   The fish saw a 13-4 lead in the 4th inning evaporate as starter Scott Olsen struggled along with the bullpen.    Every reliever had time on the mound for the fish in a game that dropped the team to 3.5 games behind the first place Phillies.

Olsen allowed 9 runs, 8 of them earned in five innings of work.   Despite the awful outing, Olsen was in line for the win until Kevin Gregg blew the save in the 9th inning.   It was Gregg’s 2nd blown save in a row and his 6th of the season.    The Rockies scored at least one run inning in every inning but the 8th.   Only Renyel Pinto and Doug Waecther had scoreless appearances on the mound.   Pinto’s time lasted an inning while Waechter’s lasted one third of an inning.

Hanley Ramirez and Matt Treanor each hit home runs for the fish.   The homers were Ramirez’s 21st and Treanor’s 2nd of the year.   Ramirez’s was also his 21st leadoff home run of his career coming on the first pitch of the game.   R.B.I.’s were plentiful for the fish in this game.  Ramirez, Luis Gonzalez,  and Josh Willingham each added two to their totals.   Matt Treanor added three runs batted in of his own.    Mike Jacobs, Alfredo Amezaga, and Jeremy Hermida each had 1 R.B.I.   Cody Ross had the biggest night of all with 5 runs batted in.    Jacobs and Jorge Cantu both had four hit games while Ross, and Ramirez had three hit games.

The four game series against the Rockies continues on Saturday as Jorge De La Rosa takes on Ryan Tucker.
